Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Arturo Ronzon Tummy tuck and liposuction are two surgical options that are widely popular when a flatter tummy is desired. These two surgical alternatives are what people turn to next when their flabby tummies do respond to neither diet nor exercise. Although the tummy tuck is a very comprehensive makeover of the tummy, most cases would only require a liposuction. A tummy tuck is a major surgery which requires an incision stretching from one hip bone to another. The skin around the belly button is also cut open to free the abdominal skin. The skin is then separated from the abdomen while the excess fat is removed. The abdominal muscles can also be tightened up by stitching them together. The tummy tuck procedure is ended by pulling down the skin and cutting off any excess. A new hole is made for the belly button and the incisions are then stitched together. A tummy tuck is also performed under general anesthesia. Due to the major nature of the tummy tuck surgery, there are substantial risks involved. There are risks associated with surgical complications and also risks tied to the anesthetics. Therefore, a tummy tuck could become a real option only if you need to lose weight and get rid of a lot of excess skin as in the case of losing a lot of weight rapidly. The liposuction is usually a less traumatic option if your weight loss requirement is not as drastic. Liposuction only involves making a few small incisions in the abdominal area to insert the surgical tools. The excess fat is sucked out of the body using a surgical vacuum and the incisions are stitched closed. Surgeons can perform liposuction using local anesthetics as opposed to general anesthesia. There will be excess skin left after a liposuction compared to a tummy tuck but the rate of the skin shrinking after losing body fat makes up for it. Think of how the tummy returns to normal after pregnancy and you get the idea. Since liposuction is much less traumatic than a tummy tuck, the patient usually undergoes rapid recovery and can be going off to work after as little as 3 days of recovery. A full tummy tuck takes a few months to recover from and up to a year to enjoy the full benefits. Even then, a tummy tuck leaves big surgical scars compared to the tiny scars of a liposuction. Dating And Fear - It is Natural But Daunting

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Celina Richards In the dating game, what can ruin your chances is fear. Dont be fooled, your date can smell it a mile away. Theres no disguising it and what it shows is anything but attractive. Rejection follows swiftly. Fear and rejection go together as rejection is responsible for the fear that causes it. Fear of rejection can be worse than it seems. It shows in your actions and words, creating a negative impression. One can unintentionally give the impression of being too aggressive, in an attempt to disguise the fear of rejection. All of us need to be loved, appear attractive, be popular and succeed in everything. But an inner voice tells us that we are doomed to fail. There may or may not be any logic for why the one we want to impress will not respond. Here the fear of rejection is so strong that irrespective of how hard we try, the fear itself ensures rejection. The basic problem is a lack of confidence. Confidence creates the ability to be interesting as well as to be interested. Smiles, jokes, fun and light moments come naturally. This helps the person in your company form a favorable opinion of your character. If you succeed in getting a laugh, youre on the right track. But if you are in fear, there will be disaster. As dating is a game of numbers, sooner or later, a yes will be forthcoming. But it is possible that your entire approach may be all-wrong. It may be the wrong type youre targeting, or pick-up lines that you are using. Dont get the wrong idea when the person appears friendly. Fear of rejection for any passes one makes, may have basis for it. Misleading flirtatious signs are termed proteans, after the Greek river God Proteus, known for changing forms to elude pursuers. Usually men take the proteans as all-clear signals to make their move. Women on the other hand are merely making an assessment of a potentially suitable partner. On a first date, you could be at the receiving end of a volley of confusing protean signals. The confusion helps women get the advantage by making a judgment on a man in a short time. Usually the man ends up confused and consequently rejected. It is a proven fact that women find it offensive to be ignored and are more likely to be initially attracted to a man when he doesnt immediately start fawning all over her. The protean link here is irrefutable. A woman may be assessing a man as a potential partner without any reciprocation from him. Instead of fear if the man appears disinterested, the woman is likely to be confused and become more interested. These are the rules of courtship as a game. Dating fear needs to be overcome lest it come at the cost of a potential partner. There is an undeniable link to self-perception of looks and abilities. By boosting self-confidence and using a proper approach towards appropriate women, there are better chances of success in making the first move. Ironically enough when you are aware of confusing signals you are able to view rejection as being an inseparable part of the dating game instead of a tragedy. Thus, the idea is to enjoy and have no fear. Celina Richards is a counselor and dating coach in private practice since 1995. Binge Eating: Will This Cycle Ever Stop?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Carol Solomon Here’s a letter from my email: Dear Carol, I took your teleclass two years ago (I think). I reflect so often on everything the class covered that it seems like it was much more recently that I took the course. I am much better at recognizing what situations, people or foods will trigger a binge. I am very cognizant of what foods make me feel bad and what foods make me feel good physically. I can go for weeks eating a very healthy diet but I always end up in a binge cycle again. I have lost 20 lbs and have 20 more to go. To say that this has been any easy road is far from the truth. I find myself in the midst of a binge right now. Of course, the toughest part is getting back on track. One would think that I would be happy that I have lost 20 lbs but how I really feel is disappointed with myself that I allowed myself to get so out of shape. I feel angry that I worked hard to lose those 20 lbs but I still can’t fit into many of my clothes. I just want this last 20 lbs to be gone but I know I have to put some effort into that happening. Will this cycle ever stop? I know this was all covered in the course and your e-book (which I loaned to a friend and never got back) but actually connecting the dots between knowing what to do and actually doing it don’t seem to stick with me for more than a few weeks at a time. Thanks for all of the wonderful support you offer every week in your newsletter. Deidre Robinson Hi Deidre, I think your situation is a good example of how easy it is to get stuck. Yes, you might think that you would be happy and be able to celebrate your success. But it is just too easy to focus on what you haven’t done, or where you haven’t been successful. Believe me; many people would love to be in your shoes. Besides losing 20 pounds, your successes include being more aware of what situations can trigger a binge, of what foods make you feel good or bad, and for being able to go for weeks eating healthy. The problem comes when you go off the healthy eating path onto a detour and what you tell yourself when that happens. That might be things like “this will NEVER be any different” or “I am ALWAYS going to have this problem” or “I will NEVER be able to control myself. Notice the extreme thoughts. Since when did weight loss become such an all or nothing proposition? Getting back on track requires that you are kind and gentle to yourself, that you analyze and learn from the situation, that you get support for yourself if you need it, that you focus more on what you HAVE done than what you HAVEN’T done, and that you consider it more of a detour than a crash. You also might think about what it would mean for you to lose those last 20 pounds. Is there anything uncomfortable about that? Something is causing you to sabotage yourself just when things are going well. It is critical to your success to figure this out and break the pattern. It is the key to bridging the gap between KNOWING what to do and doing it. Warm personal regards, Carol Solomon, Ph.D. PS - Deidre, congratulations on your weight loss, and I am attaching another copy of the book. Hi Carol, Thank you so much for your wise words. I have alsowondered why I keep sabotaging my efforts at losing these last 20 pounds. I hope to figure this out very soon. Thank you so much for the ebook. This will not leave my possession for any reason. Thank you again for your continued support and wisdom. Kriyas and Trataka

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Grata Young A disease-free system should be the starting ground for yogasanas and pranayama. There are six specific cleansing techniques, known as Shat Kriyas, which eliminate impurities and help cure many ailments. In yoga, four exercises have been prescribed for strengthening weak eye muscles, relieving eye strain and curing of eye disease. They are known as ‘Trataka’, which in sanskrit means ‘Winkles gaze at a particular point’ or looking at an object with awareness. The four tratakas are: Dakshinay jatru trataka in which, with face forwards, the eyes are fixed on the tip of the right shoulder; Vamajatru trataka, in which the eyesare fixed on the tip of the left shoulder; Namikagra trataka, in which the eyes arefocussed on the tip of the nose, and Bhrumadhya trataka, in which the eyes are focusedon the space between the eyebrows. These exercises should be practiced from ameditative position like padmasana or vajrasana. The gaze should be maintained for aslong as you are comfortable, gradually increasing the period from 10 to 20 and then to 30seconds. The eyes should be closed and rested after each exercise. Persons with acutemyopia should perform the tratakas wit h their eyes closed. Monoglycerides and Diglycerides

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Gabe Mirkin, M.D. Monoglycerides and diglycerides are fats, but people who are trying to lose weight do not need to worry about restricting them. Most of the fat that you eat is in the form of triglycerides. These fats occur in both animal and plant foods. Triglycerides have a chemical structure shaped like an E. The “tri” of triglycerides means that there are three vertical lines off the horizontal line of the fat molecule. Monoglycerides have only one vertical line, and diglycerides have only two. Otherwise all three glycerides are fats and affect your body in the same way. They all have nine calories per gram and are broken down in the same way to form the same building blocks that are absorbed from your intestines into your bloodstream. While triglycerides comprise most of the fat that you eat, monoglycerides and diglycerides together make up less than one percent. They are added to foods to make bakery products taste smooth and to prevent the oil from separating out in foods such as peanut butter. Check the list of ingredients of the foods you buy, and you will see that monoglycerides and diglycerides are listed no higher than fourth on the label. This means that they are added in such small amounts that they contribute an insignificant amount of fat or calories to your diet. Wedding Vows: Traditional or Contemporary?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Craig Thornburrow Your wedding vows should be something that are meaningful for the rest of your lives. It is worth spending some time planning which wedding vows are right for you and your mate. You might want to look for wedding vows and ideas for wedding vows online. Wedding sites have information and suggestions about wedding vows and this information will give you an idea of possibilities. Many people choose to use traditional wedding vows. You can discuss your wedding vows with the pastor or priest who is going to marry you. There are different wedding vows depending on the faith you practice. You may choose to write your own wedding vows. This can be especially lovely as long as you know what you are doing. If you plan to write your own wedding vows and will be married in a church or synagogue you will need to make sure this is allowed. When you have made the decision to write your own wedding vows you should start writing at least two months before the ceremony. This will give you time to rewrite and make modifications. It is not a good idea to write your own wedding vows if one of the parties really doesnt want to. This is such an important part of the wedding that both the bride and groom should be willing to take part in the writing of the wedding vows. Before you ever start writing your wedding vows take the time to discuss what you both want to say. Make a list or keep a notebook of the things that you want to include in the wedding vows. You will also need to decide if you want to have the wedding vows memorized. If you are not comfortable with memorizing the wedding vows it is perfectly all right to read them instead. It would be better to read the wedding vows than have one person go completely blank when the time comes. Spend some time pondering your wedding vows, what you want to say and how you want to say it. Beauty Products in Today’s Society

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Angela Declaire With bath and body stores everywhere you turn and skin care and other beauty products slamming the shelves everyday, should you care? To truthfully answer this question, you must ask yourself a few questions.. One. Are your looks important to you? Two. Do you care about the beauty of your skin? Three. Are you willing to pay for the products these bath and body stores provide? If you answered yes to all three questions, then yes you should care about your overall appearance and I suggest you check out a bath and body store near you. If you answered yes to the first two, but answered no to the third.. then you should really think about whether your looks really are important to you. After all, you wouldn’t wear a stained shirt to a job interview.. so why if you’re willing to clean your shirt, something that can be replaced, why not care for your skin with a top of the line bath and body beauty product? If you answered no to all three questions, then you really need to ask yourself an entirely new question.. Do you care about yourself? In today’s world, those who look clean in appearance radiate a glow of success, importance, and dignity. Those who don’t, tend to not feel good about themselves and the rest of society can see it. PleasantSpa.com is a cool new bath and body site with top of the line fragrances and skin care products that will help to make your appearance shine. If you’re searching for a good bath and body site, that’s the one. I have been in fashion retail for over a decade and know a thing or two when it comes to looking young and creating an attractive, overall, appearance. Endometriosis: A Nutritional Approach

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Dr. David Enders Endometriosis was first recognized as a pathologic entity at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is defined as a condition resulting from disseminated implants of actively growing and functioning endometrial tissue in aberrant locations outside of the uterus. Symptoms of the disease never appear before the menarche and are most frequently seen in women in their twenties or thirties. The disease usually ceases to be a problem after a woman reaches menopause. Symptoms of the disease will vary with the location of the lesion. The most common symptoms are lower abdominal pain, backache, dyspareunia, menorrhagia, pre- and post- menstrual staining, bladder irritability, hematuria, bowel disturbances with painful defecation and rectal bleeding, painful inguinal swellings, sterility, and dysmenorrhea. The symptoms are accentuated by menstruation and will usually decrease and/or completely subside at the end or just after the period. Nutritional support offers a promising adjunct to drugs or surgery. Any nutritional support will be more effective if the woman has first received a thorough chiropractic evaluation and treatment. A normally functioning nervous system is a prerequisite for a complete restoration of optimal health. Nutritional support should include the following: 1. Phyto-Sterols to balance the hormonal system. An estrogen progesterone imbalance or deficiency may result in menstrual dysfunction. A supplement containing Mexican Wild Yam, Beta Sitosterol, and specific amino acids would be ideal. 2. Phyto-Nutrients from a variety of cruciferous vegetables and fruit provides newly discovered plant chemicals that assist in cellular repair. 3. Glyconutrients provide the necessary plant sugars needed for cell-to-cell communication and immune support. 4. Vitamin / Mineral supplement, food formed would be best. Provides many co-factors need for optimal health. Please understand that this is not a prescription to cure anything, but simply a guideline to better provide nutritional support. 8 Secrets to Marketing Success

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Bill Dueease The profits of a business are totally dependent on marketing. Otherwise few, if any, sales will be generated. But what is marketing anyway? Marketing is doing what it takes to convince enough customers to pay the necessary price for your products and/or services to produce the desired profits for the business. Let’s discuss the 8 Secrets business owners can use to greatly improve their marketing success. Secret #1: Give marketing top priority. The primary reason any customer chooses to buy your products or services is because of effective marketing. The marketing process starts at the very beginning and continues forever! Marketing consists of four separate functions, known as the four P’s: 1. Product - Develop your products and/or services to ensure they fill the needs of your potential customers, so they will want to buy from your business. You have full control over this marketing function. 2. Pricing - Set your price structure to ensure that the business will achieve the desired profits and that customers will perceive the value of the benefits they receive to be greater than the prices they pay. You have full control over this marketing function. 3. Positioning - Position your products and/or services to allow potential customers easy interaction with the business to evaluate and purchase your products or services. You have full control over this marketing function. 4. Promotion - The final step is promotion, where you communicate with your potential customers (normally through a communications medium) about the existence and benefits of your products or services to attract them to contact your business to learn more. You will have only partial control over this marketing function. Marketing is culminated in sales when your customers perception of the value of their benefits exceeds the price they pay for products or services. You generate successful sales only when you complete positive Product Development, Price, Positioning, and Promotion. In fact, you will want your business to be a marketing machine. The sales process is frequently part of the promotions function, however it can incorporate all four of the marketing functions, depending upon the type of products or services offered and the make-up of your targeted customers. Secret #2: Do not confuse advertising with marketing. Advertising is only part of the last marketing step (Promotion) and it occurs late in the game. Many people think advertising is all there is to marketing, and they overlook the other three very important earlier marketing steps. Yet, they have total control over the other three marketing steps, which are far more important than advertising. Consequently, you will want to develop the other three functions that you control first, to allow advertising to succeed. Secret #3: Base your marketing on customer perspectives. Owners believe their power and freedom of choice, as the boss, means that they don’t have to deal with the opinions of others. “I am now my own boss” is only partly true. You are in virtual control of either succeeding or failing to convince - The Customer- to buy your products or services. You want to avoid IMPOSING your opinion on your potential customers. Focus on fulfilling the perceived wants and needs of your customers, from Their Perspective. Secret #4: Research your potential customers. When you have determined who your target customers are, learn everything about: - What your target customers THINK they want to buy - Why your target customers THINK they buy - How your target customers THINK they buy - When your target customers THINK they buy Secret #5: Screen out undesirable customers. You have the right and obligation to determine which potential customers you will agree to serve. You should screen out undesirable customers early so you can focus more attention on customers you want to serve. Sadly, owners often may not know how to select desirable customers from the pool of potential customers they encounter. As a result, they often spend too much time, money and energy trying to deal with a handful of hard-to-please customers who frequently demand lower prices at the expense of better customers, who go elsewhere because they were ignored. Determine the key criteria to decide which potential customers are desirable. You will want to encourage undesirable customers to visit your competitors, so they will expend their time, money and energy instead of you. Secret #6: Give existing customers full attention. Owners frequently become so focused on getting new customers that they ignore their existing repeat customers. Your business will probably not survive without repeat business. Repeat customers present a wealth of opportunities to you. - They frequently provide you excellent feedback - They provide an excellent reference and referral service (read free advertising) - They are the least expensive to service - They provide the most likely source of additional business - Their unnecessary departure causes substantial damage (upset customers will complain to 5 to 9 other people) Stay close to your existing customers and learn as much as you can from them. Secret #7: Create a positive identity that is distinct from your competitors. Most customers compare. They need good reasons to choose your product or service over others. You complete more sales when you understand your competitors extremely well and position your products or services for positive customer comparison. Secret #8: Consider the overwhelming power emotion has on the buying process. Human emotions govern the buying process (some say over 80% of the entire process is emotional). Yet owners frequently focus their energies on price and avoid the real emotional reasons customers will buy. You will want to know and feel the emotional connection your potential customers will connect to your business, your products and/or services, and the way customers interact with your business. Design your marketing program to address the emotional issues to attract and keep the right customers. The normal human thinking process of deciding to buy almost always starts with an emotional need. The emotional need causes the customer to consider buying something to fill it. The search and evaluation of the possible choices of products and or services is also frequently emotional, and additional emotional forces are often added. The price issue usually comes in near the end. Normally, customers ask about prices to help justify the emotional decisions they have already made. In fact, the request for the price from normal customers is a very strong buying signal (does the cost allow them to buy what they want and is it fair for what they decided to get?). Encourage customers to enjoy their emotional buying choices Once the purchase is made, far too many businesses can’t wait to shuffle the customers off and almost treat the customers like they have some disease. This frequently causes customers to experience buyers remorse. Yet, this is the time to finalize the sale once and for all and begin the process of future sales. Congratulate your customers on their buying choices and encourage them to enjoy the emotional benefits they sought from the purchase. Business owners succeed when they know how to deal with this emotional process and permit the customer to complete this process through final payment. What a wonderful opportunity! You can take charge of your entire marketing effort and attract the customers you desire with much less effort and less cost.
